Dakshinamurthy Govindavadi Temple History
According to legend, during the war between the gods and demons, The chakra of Lord Vishnu is accidentally fell on Sage Dadhichi, causing the chakra to lose its power. To regain the power of the chakra, Vishnu decided to worship and seek blessings of Lord Shiva. He took a holy bath with his wives and then prayed to Lord Shiva.
Then, Lord Shiva appeared and gave Lord Vishnu a holy mantra. Shiva instructed him to worship his linga form in Thirumalpur using 1,000 flowers. Following the instructions, Lord Vishnu performed the puja and retrieved the chakra, which is now fully empowered. Since Shiva appeared as a guru, the Lord is worshipped and revered as Dakshinamurthy.
