Baba Dhabaleshwar Temple Cuttack History
History of Baba Dhabaleshwar Temple Cuttack :- Baba Dhabaleswar Temple is one of the ancient temples of Odisha, built between 11th and 12th century. The name Dhabaleswar is a combination of two Odia words: Dhabaal meaning white and Ishwar meaning God.
According to folklore, once a thief stole a black calf from a cow in a village. When the villagers came to know about this, they started searching for the thief. The thief got scared and hid in a Shiva temple, but the villagers came to know that the thief is hiding inside the temple with the calf. People started shouting and asked him to come out of the temple. The thief got scared and started praying to Lord Shiva to save him from the mob.
God heard his prayers and taking pity on the thief, Lord Shiva appeared in front of the villagers in the form of a hermit and asked the villagers the reason for the disturbance, then the villagers told the hermit that a thief had stolen a black calf and was hiding inside the temple, then the hermit brought the calf out from inside the temple to remove the doubts of the villagers. But surprisingly, the black calf came out as white, seeing which the crowd was surprised and then the villagers let the thief go.
Then the hermit disappeared from there, then the thief realized that God himself had come to help him. Then the thief accepted his mistake and apologized to the villagers and also told the whole truth. After that Chone resolved to become a good person and spent the rest of his life in the service of God and this is the reason why the Os temple of Lord Shiva is known as Dhabaleswar Temple.
