Hanuman Garhi Ayodhya History

According to mythology, when Lord Rama, Mata Sita and Hanuman ji returned to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana in the war, then Hanuman ji started living in a cave located in Ayodhya for the purpose of guarding Ramkot. For this reason, this place in Ayodhya was named Hanuman Garhi.

It is said that Hanuman Garhi temple in Ayodhya was built by King Vikramaditya during his reign. But Hanuman Garhi temple was demolished by Aurangzeb and Aurangzeb built a mosque at the same place. Later, King Bairag defeated the then king of Awadh Nawab Shuja-ud-Daula badly in the war and captured that land. Then he got the mosque removed and built a new temple of Hanuman ji.
